Chef’sChoice 615 Food Slicer Review
Chef’sChoice is about two things: functionality and affordability. Don’t expect this model to be a commercial-grade model that costs four or five times the price. This is an electric meat slicer that is meant for home use and is rather efficient for your home meat slicing needs.
With that said, the 615 is also very well-built.
The materials of the unit are made from cast aluminum and stainless steel. All of the components are made of these two materials, so you know that they won’t rust or break over time.
Keep in mind that you can disassemble the entire unit for cleaning, but you’ll want to be very careful around one part: the blade.
The blade will slice your skin like a piece of ham.
It’s extremely sharp, so use the utmost caution when you go anywhere near the slicer’s blade. It’s a powerful slicer that has an ultra-sharp blade that will cause you some serious harm if you’re not very cautious.
And with that in mind, we can move into the real powerful features of this slicer.
When you have it assembled and unboxed, you’ll notice that there’s a tilted food carriage. This carriage is designed to have a slight tilt that allows you to move your meats efficiently and quickly. You’ll be able to move the meats, cutting them into thin slices thanks to this unique design.
There’s also a Cantilever design that allows for easy cleaning and, large platters to be used.
Everyone likes their meat to be sliced to different thicknesses, and the Chef’sChoice 615 allows you to adjust your unit’s thickness level up to 3/4-inch.
Why is this important?
You’ll be able to cut meat very thin for sandwiches or much thicker for your other needs. It’s the perfect level of versatility, and it’s one of the best features of this model. You can adjust the thickness with precision, and you can even remove the thickness guides to clean them when you’re done.
Now some people will complain about the cleaning process, but I am pretty positive they’ve never cleaned a slicer before.
It’s a messy process, but it’s much easier when you can completely disassemble your slicer, clean and reassemble the unit afterwards.
Yes, this is a meat slicer, and no its not ideal for soft items like tomatoes. With that said, you won’t have an issue slicing:
So, yes, you can slice through most meats with ease, and you’ll also be able to slice through a variety of other foods as well.
It’s a versatile little machine.
And there’s also a safety lock of sorts, which allows you to keep the blade in a safe position during storage. When you have kids or anyone else that may improperly handle the electric slicer, this lock will be priceless.
If you want to cut raw meat, it’s best to chill it for an hour or so first.
The slicer isn’t the best at slicing soft products, so if you have anything that is soft that you want to slice, place it in the refrigerator for an hour or so to harden it up.
Your investment is also protected by a one-year warranty. Chef’sChoice will back their products and replace them if needed. They’re also very helpful when you have any questions, which for me, makes it worth buying from the company.
- Easy-to-clean design allows for near complete disassembly
- Large, powerful motor with superb thickness control
- Slider lock that locks the slider over the sharp blade for added safety
- Not ideal for soft items
A lot of people like to use their slicer for small items, and this isn’t going to work well when your small item is soft. If you have plans of slicing tomatoes or anything similar, you’ll find that you’re not going to have luck.
This is a slicer truly meant for meat.
Aside from this small complaint, it does its job well. No, this slicer isn’t as powerful as a commercial model, but it will still do the job and cut your meat to near perfection.
When you consider the price and outstanding blade, the Chef’sChoice 615 is a fast and easy slicer that will exceed your expectations.
